The Daily Devocast brings you daily encouragement from God’s word. Today’s devotional message Stop Running From Your Calling is based on Psalm 27:14.
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
(English Standard Version, Psalm 27:14)
As we walk in more healing and wholeness, no longer burdened by the fear, anxiety, and worry that used to hold us down, we have the capacity to dream again. The more we press in to God, the more He reveals our calling and destiny, which I find more often than not aligns with the dreams He’s put in His son’s and daughter’s hearts.
When we get into the season where those dreams begin to manifest in our lives and truly become a reality, there is a critical step we must take. It’s a step of acceptance. It’s often at the threshold of dreams fully emerging that the enemy begins to whisper doubts in our ear. Old lies rise up, telling us we’re not good enough and that it’s all too good to be true.
These are the moments where you have to make a choice. It might seem comforting in these times of doubt to turn to our old functional idols—those addictions, those habits that used to help us cope. If you go down that road, you’ll find that those old functional idols aren’t compatible with your new identity. They no longer satisfy, so the next time you begin to doubt your worthiness to fully step into your destiny, stop running and call on the Lord. Be courageous and wait for Him to lead you out of your dark moment of doubt. His response will bring a level of satisfaction and peace that is only found through Him.
Prayer: Father, it can be easy for us to doubt the destiny and calling you’ve written over our lives. The next time we’re tempted to turn to our old functional idols, stop us in our tracks. Fill us with courage and grant us the patience to wait for you to lead us to the other side of that dark moment. Amen.
Action Step: Find a quiet place and make a list of your old functional idols, the things you used to turn to instead of God when times got tough. Pray through each functional idol one by one asking God to fully release you from the hold it has over you and ask Him to empower you to call on Him the next time you face a moment of doubt or fear. He’ll show up and satisfy in ways those old idols never could.
