Psalm 23:1-3 – True Self-Care and Refreshment is Found in the Lord

The Daily Devocast brings you daily encouragement from God’s word. Today’s devotional message True Self-Care and Refreshment is Found in the Lord is based on Psalm 23:1-3.

1 A psalm of David. Adonai is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

(Tree of Life Version, Psalm 23:1-3)

Self-care is all the rage these days. And while I wholeheartedly agree that each of needs to take proper measures to take good care of ourselves, the reality is that man’s self-care regimens have their limitations. There are certain aspects of our human longings and one might even say supernatural longings, that can only be satisfied through a relationship with the Lord.

Do you have areas in your life that are too difficult or too painful for even the best self-care to touch? It’s time to invite Jesus the good shepherd into those circumstances and ask him to bring fruitfulness, rest, and restoration.

Prayer: Jesus, you are our shepherd. In whatever ways we’ve failed to fully realize your constant care in our lives, I ask that you would make that as clear as day to each of us. For the areas of our lives where we’re not yet experiencing the fullness of your shalom and peace, I ask that you’d give us breakthrough right now. Amen.

Action Step: Find a quiet place and declare the words of Psalm 23:1-3 over yourself. Ask God to restore and refresh you in all areas of life where you are currently experiencing discomfort and lack. Write down any breakthrough or unexpected revelations in your journal.
