The Daily Devocast brings you daily encouragement from God’s word. Today’s devotional message Look Up, Help is on the Way is based on Psalm 121:1-2.
1 I look up toward the hills. From where does my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.
(New English Translation, Psalm 121:1-2)
Regardless of our age, adult and child alike, our external countenance is a window into what’s happening within our inner world. When we’re sad or scared, this often looks like slumped shoulders and a head that hangs down. These physical actions often indicate a mixture of shame, fear, and self-protection, which directly relates to whatever it is we’re wrestling with on the inside.
No matter the issue we’re facing today, God is calling each of us to look up and see Him, to look into His beautiful face and realize His eyes are not filled with wrath, but with grace and mercy. The Creator of heaven and earth is coming to your aid right now. Will you let Him give you relief from your burden?
Prayer: Father, we know that if we call on you, you will respond. For those days when we feel shameful and unworthy, I pray that you’d give us the courage to invite you into our current circumstances. Turn our fears and insecurities into joy and peace. Amen.
Action Step: Spend some time today thinking about the emotions that sometimes get in the way of you calling on God for help. Write them down on a piece of paper and ask God to show you how your identity in Him and what He says and thinks about you is what actually defines you. Now turn those negative emotions into positive declarations, something that you can speak over yourself when you’re having a difficult day (i.e. When I am feeling sad, God comes to make my full of joy, when I am feeling angry, God comes to give me peace, etc.). Save these declarations in your Bible or write them in your journal, so you can easily refer back to them when you need to renew your mind with the truth of how God sees you.
