In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

(King James Version, Psalm 120:1)

If you have ever wondered if God is going to be there for you when the going gets tough, you are not alone. Israel wondered this time and again. As a matter of fact, as Egypt is barreling down on them threatening to return them to slavery, Isreal stands at the Red Sea wondering is God going to save us and then the Red Sea parts. They walk through on dry land, Egypt is swallowed, and they’re free. When they look back at the sea it is closed and God has met them exactly where they were at.

This is the same with most of the stories in the Bible, from David and Goliath all the way to the disciples needing something and Jesus meeting their needs when the time is right. Why is it so hard for us to have faith in God when times are tough? We know he’s going to provide but we don’t trust it with all that is in us. God is a God who provides our needs. We call on Him seeking his mercy and he comes through every time. Although this doesn’t change that it is difficult for us to have faith when times are hard, we can rest in the reality that God is with us, he hears us, and we can continue to call on him no matter our circumstance.

Prayer: Father, help me to understand and know that you are a God who loves me and is with me even during hard times. Help me trust you that when my anxiety is high you are with me and you are my peace. Let me have faith in you like the people in the Bible who trusted you and believed in you even during the hardest times. Amen.

Action Step: Spend some time meditating on how God has been there for you in the past. Spend some time thanking God for being there for you and remember that Jesus is the ultimate gift of God so that we can have peace during any season.
